harissa shrimp and polenta with grilled tomatoes

April 21st, 2008 · 30 Comments

i just wrote an entire post on this dish, hit publish and

IT WAS LOST FOREVER.

and now i wanna literally cry because well, i’m tired.  and other stuff.  but i took a long time writing this post and i thought it was kinda good, and with a ton of links… but dear readers, i just can’t recreate it.  i don’t have it in me.   i need a big glass of water, my bed and the remote… asap…  a neck rub would be mighty splendid too…

basically i just wanted you to know that harissa is my new love.  and here it is on grilled shrimp with mario’s 3 hour polenta and slow roasted grape tomatoes with shallots and fresh thyme, sprinkled with guerande salt.

the end.

winners tba for the ‘IRON FORK’ contest tomorrow.

see you there…

That sucks… if it’s any consolation, you ate a lot better than I did tonight.

A picture is worth a million words and yours said it all. I am thinking of a minor Greg Kihn Band hit, “Jealousy.”
    Is harissa the new ketchup?

    Claudia:

A picture is worth a thousand words and a forkful of that dish is worth far more than the photo, I’m sure!

I am so sorry and feel you pain! I absolutely hate it when that happens!

But I still hope I have a *chance* in your contest!!

I am lucky enough to get a neck and foot massage every night.
Your shrimp does not need a description, the picture says it all.Hope you feel better today.

The picture is gorgeous, anyway. I love harissa, too.

  • 7 RecipeGirl // Apr 21, 2008 at 11:13 pm

    You poor thing. That sucks.

I’m going to need to experiment with harissa. I haven’t picked it up yet.

  • 8 Peter // Apr 22, 2008 at 1:39 am

I too discovered Harissa last yr. and I’m a convert too!

As for the dish, at least you got a dazzling pic and you indeed ate well!

I’m in love with this just from the picture. Really need to give that Mario recipe a go sometime, too.

When I lose whole posts, I take comfort in David Gates’s tragedy with his second novel “Preston Falls.” Seems his secretary forgot to make a copy of a typewritten draft before sending it off to his editor. You can see where this is going. The shipping company’s truck burst into flames en route and all of his work was lost, work he then recreated. Can you even imagine?

So yeah, I storm around a bit when I lose a post but then remember how much worse it could be. I’m so f’n self-actualized.

Harissa IS food of the gods.

Ohhhh that’s happened to me before, unbelievably sucky!! At least your picture is gorgeous, huh? I’m pretty wimpy when it comes to chilli but I made harissa last year and couldn’t stop eating it by the spoonful. Hope that neck rub materialises sometime soon 🙂

I first came accross harissa a couple of months ago when one of my best friends served a delicious harrisa roast chicken for dinner. I was instantly hooked and knew that I had to absolutely add it to my ever-growing spice collection! I can’t wait to try your shrimp, looks perfect for a light luncheon. Cheers!

    Fret,

In perspective, 13 comments on a ‘lost’ non-post. Aint been so very long since it was hard to get 5 comments on a mile long photoessay. We show up just to see one picture now. Cant get rid of us……

  • 15 Lynn // Apr 22, 2008 at 7:56 am

I feel your pain. I lost an entire post with pictures about my recent trip to South America. ARGH!

The photo is making my mouth water. It needs no words.

    What’s Harissa? She sounds purty.

  • 16 Dan // Apr 22, 2008 at 8:20 am

your picture cover your words. crazy food fans who read you every day are more than willing and able to fill in blanks caused by wonky computer craziness.

  • 17 Kim // Apr 22, 2008 at 9:39 am

I hope you had a good nights rest and feel better. It’s awlful when the computer does mean things; like loose our good hard creative work. Your post was still grand, and the meal looks simply divine. You can cook for me any night.

  • 18 Mary Coleman // Apr 22, 2008 at 9:56 am

Jeez…that looks fabulous. Great minds will figure out how you did it, but nobody will get as good a picture!

  • 19 Julie // Apr 22, 2008 at 11:25 am

Oh, man, it sucks when you lose a post but the picture and description are enough to know you have something good going on there.

  • 20 We Are Never Full // Apr 22, 2008 at 11:30 am

that JUST happened to me too. it’s such a bummer… i must’ve cursed my computer 15 times. but this does look great… if anything, that polenta cake looks FABU. i want one now!

maybe you’re mojo for rewriting will return one day? if not, screw it … that pic is droolworthy.

  • 21 aforkfulofspaghetti // Apr 22, 2008 at 11:32 am

OK, go put your feet up. I’ll just eat that for you – save you the effort. 😉

  • 24 The Italian Dish // Apr 22, 2008 at 12:57 pm

Damn. I feel your pain. All that work…gone. That’s awful. The picture is nice, though!

  • 25 Stephanie // Apr 22, 2008 at 4:08 pm

Well, at least the photo is drool worthy and makes me hungry! So what if there aren’t words behind it…Now off to experiment with harissa!

  • 26 Ethel // Apr 22, 2008 at 4:40 pm

The photo is just fabulously delicious looking and wish I could have eaten with you.
I can imagine what a bummer it was to delete what you wrote but you are forgiven and await your next treat,

  • 27 Kate // Apr 22, 2008 at 6:17 pm

While a lost post always sucks (and it’s usually when you’re tired and wordy) you can know we’re all here drooling over the photo. Forget tickets, you should give out invitations for dinner with you.

  • 28 lifeinrecipes // Apr 23, 2008 at 7:26 am

Just one longing glance at that obviously glorious plateful of flavorful food is all I need.

  • 29 The Urban Eater // Apr 23, 2008 at 8:35 am

See, Nashville ain’t that bad. You can find Harissa paste! There’s only one place in Tampa that sells it. Speaking of which, I still need to get some more.

  • 30 Mary // Aug 3, 2009 at 4:31 pm

Where in Tampa, can you get Harissa? Please give me name and address, if possible. Thanks!
